Trong bối cảnh đô thị hóa ngày càng gia tăng, việc thiết kế không gian sống hòa hợp với thiên nhiên trở thành yêu cầu cấp thiết.
Không gian lưu động như chiến lược tái tạo
Dự án tập trung vào việc tan chảy hoàn toàn ranh giới giữa trong và ngoài để hình thành những không gian mở liên tục với dòng sông. Bảy căn biệt thự được thiết kế với cửa patio có thể mở rộng toàn bộ mà không chiếm diện tích sàn, hướng thẳng ra bờ sông. Điều này loại bỏ mọi rào cản truyền thống giữa con người và thiên nhiên, tạo nên luồng ánh sáng và góc nhìn liên tục trải dài qua cảnh quan.
Chiến lược này trực tiếp phản ứng với đặc tính thủy văn của khu vực. Hệ thống cầu thang treo bằng thân tre truyền thống cho phép khách truy cập vào vùng sông yên tĩnh mà không cần can thiệp cấu trúc, đồng thời các phòng tắm ngoài trời được bố trí sao cho cây xanh bao quanh từ trong cửa sổ phòng ngủ.
Các không gian có trần cao giúp tối đa hóa ánh sáng tự nhiên và hỗ trợ thông gió tự nhiên nhờ làn gió từ sông. Cơ chế làm mát thụ động hoạt động mà không cần hệ thống máy móc, tận dụng địa hình và khí hậu micro của khu vực để lưu thông không khí.
Các khu vườn hoang dã bao quanh biệt thự vừa là yếu tố thẩm mỹ vừa có chức năng thực tiễn. Chúng mờ nhạt ranh giới truyền thống giữa cảnh quan được chăm sóc và thiên nhiên hoang dã, giúp giữ nguyên tầm nhìn sông trong khi duy trì tính toàn vẹn sinh thái.
Vật liệu bản địa: kết nối sinh thái và văn hóa
Quy trình lựa chọn vật liệu của o9 Design Studio thể hiện sự tôn trọng sâu sắc vào kỹ thuật thủ công địa phương và điều kiện môi trường. Trong nhà hàng, trần nhà hình chóp cao được xây dựng từ các tấm lá tre đan tay thủ công – mỗi tấm đều được dệt bởi nghệ nhân sử dụng kỹ thuật truyền thống của vùng Đồng bằng sông Cửu Long.
Các viên gạch thủ công tại khu nghỉ dưỡng lấy cảm hứng từ mẫu mã đan lát tre truyền thống của vùng sông nước. Thiết kế này kết nối các phương pháp thủ công lịch sử với nhu cầu thẩm mỹ hiện đại, đảm bảo mỗi viên gạch phản ánh bản sắc địa phương mà vẫn giữ tính năng thực.
Lớp mái được làm từ lá dừa dừa địa phương thể hiện sự nhạy cảm môi trường và tính liên tục văn hóa. Phương pháp đắp lá này đòi hỏi kỹ năng cao để duy trì độ bền cấu trúc đồng thời cho phép mái thở – điều thiết yếu trong việc quản lý độ ẩm mà không ảnh hưởng đến sự thoải mái nhiệt.
Tất cả các chi tiết như đồ nội thất, cửa sổ, cửa gỗ và kỹ thuật lắp ráp đều được thiết kế riêng và chế tác từ gỗ, tre, lá dừa địa phương. Quá trình này đảm bảo mỗi yếu tố phản ánh di sản vật liệu địa phương mà vẫn đáp ứng yêu cầu chức năng hiện đại.

Nestled along Vietnam's Ong Keo River, 30km from Ho Chi Minh City, o9 Design Studio’s 2019 Chi-Bu Riverside Resort confronts the urban sprawl with an intentional retreat. The project occupies a 2000sqm site deliberately positioned to offer visitors profound decompression within lush landscapes far removed from neighboring city zones.
Spatial Fluidity as Regenerative Strategy
The resort’s core innovation lies in its radical dissolution of interior-exterior boundaries to generate expansive, unconfined spaces directly connected to the river environment. Seven bungalows feature broad, hinged patio doors that fully open without compromising floor area, extending living volumes seamlessly toward the water's edge. This design choice eliminates traditional barriers between human habitation and natural elements, creating a continuous flow of light and perspective across the landscape.
This spatial strategy directly responds to the site’s hydrological context. Traditional bamboo ladders provide accessible pathways into the resort's secluded river stretch, enabling direct interaction with the water without requiring structural interventions. Outdoor shower rooms further integrate nature through their placement—tropical plant beds frame these spaces from within bedroom windows, creating a dual perspective where interior comfort coexists with external ecological richness.
High ceilings throughout the bungalows maximize daylight penetration while facilitating natural ventilation via the river breeze. This passive cooling mechanism operates without mechanical systems, relying on the site’s unique topography and microclimate to circulate fresh air. The design deliberately avoids creating thermal zones within the structure; instead, it channels breezes through open plan arrangements that prevent overheating during Vietnam's humid seasons.
The wild gardens surrounding the bungalows function as both aesthetic and functional elements of this spatial strategy. These areas blur traditional distinctions between cultivated landscapes and wilderness, allowing river views to remain uninterrupted while maintaining ecological integrity.
Material Alchemy for Local Authenticity
o9 Design Studio’s material selection demonstrates deep respect for regional craftsmanship and environmental conditions, transforming local resources into sophisticated architectural elements. The restaurant features a soaring pyramidal ceiling constructed from handcrafted shichitomatgrass panels—each panel meticulously woven by artisans using traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations in the Mekong Delta region.
Handmade tiles throughout the resort employ geometric motifs directly inspired by traditional rattan weaving patterns of the Mekong River basin. This intentional design dialogue bridges historical craft practices with contemporary aesthetic needs, ensuring that each tile reflects regional identity while maintaining functional integrity.
Roofs are constructed using locally sourced coconut palm leaves, a material choice that demonstrates both environmental sensitivity and cultural continuity. This thatching technique requires significant skill to maintain structural integrity while allowing the roof to breathe—essential for managing humidity without compromising thermal comfort.
Furniture, windows, shutters, door frames, and joinery were all custom-designed by o9 Design Studio and fabricated using native wood, bamboo, and rattan from local artisans. This process ensures that every element reflects the region’s material heritage while meeting modern functional requirements.
The resort’s commitment to material authenticity extends beyond aesthetics into ecological responsibility.
