Tọa lạc tại khu vực bãi biển My Khe, Đà Nẵng, Chicland Hotel do VTN Architects thiết kế năm 2019 đã chuyển đổi mô hình khách sạn ven biển thông qua hệ thống thực vật dọc thân công trình. Dự án này kết hợp vật liệu địa phương và giải pháp ứng phó khí hậu để tối ưu hóa trải nghiệm cho du khách.
Hệ thống thực vật dọc thân - Giải pháp cấu trúc
Chicland Hotel nổi bật với hệ thống thực vật dọc thân được tính toán kỹ lưỡng, bao phủ tường bằng các loài cây nhiệt đới phù hợp với điều kiện khí hậu biển. VTN Architects đã chọn cymbidium hybrid, tournefortia argentea, ficus superba, bougainvillea và pluchea indica – những loài có khả năng phát triển mạnh trong môi trường ẩm ướt của Đà Nẵng đồng thời tạo lớp phủ dày, ít bảo trì. Hệ thống này không chỉ là yếu tố thẩm mỹ mà còn hoạt động như một giải pháp cấu trúc: các chậu cây xen kẽ hòa quyện với ban công và khu vực phòng ngủ di chuyển, hình thành mẫu vân biến đổi theo thời gian trong ngày mà vẫn đảm bảo độ bền. Đặc biệt, thực vật này giúp điều chỉnh nhiệt độ bề mặt nhờ quá trình thoát hơi nước (evapotranspiration) và cải thiện cảm giác mát mẻ bên trong công trình – phản ứng trực tiếp với khí hậu biển nơi ánh nắng mạnh và độ ẩm cao thường xuyên thách thức không gian khách sạn truyền thống.
Điểm khác biệt quan trọng của hệ thống là tính đơn giản trong vận hành. Khác với các vườn cây dọc thân phức tạp cần hệ thống tưới tiêu chuyên sâu, thiết kế này cho phép nhân viên địa phương quản lý bằng lượng nước tối thiểu. Điều này đảm bảo tính bền vững lâu dài mà không ảnh hưởng đến hoạt động kinh doanh hay tăng chi phí – yếu tố then chốt đối với khách sạn hoạt động trong khu vực có biến đổi thời tiết theo mùa. Bên cạnh đó, thực vật còn đóng vai trò tự nhiên chắn gió, giảm tiếng ồn từ vùng biển đồng thời duy trì liên kết thị giác với biển.
Tích hợp vật liệu địa phương - Chiến lược lưu thông
Nội thất Chicland Hotel chú trọng sử dụng vật liệu địa phương để củng cố mối quan hệ văn hóa và môi trường của Đà Nẵng. Các món đồ nội thất và trang trí được làm từ gỗ, đá, tre, đước – nguồn nguyên liệu phong phú tại Việt Nam, kết hợp giữa kỹ thuật truyền thống và mục tiêu bền vững hiện đại. Đặc biệt, không gian phòng ngủ thiết kế với hệ thống vệ sinh mở trực tiếp vào phòng ngủ, loại bỏ các khu vực trung gian thường gây ảnh hưởng đến sự riêng tư hoặc thoải mái của khách.
Mạng lưới cửa kính lớn phủ khắp công trình tạo điều kiện cho ánh sáng tự nhiên đổ dồn vào không gian và mang lại tầm nhìn biển rõ ràng từ mọi phòng. Việc bố trí cửa sổ đặc biệt ở hướng nam – nơi tiếp nhận lượng ánh nắng mạnh nhất – tối ưu hóa việc thu hoạch ánh sáng tự nhiên mà không cần phụ thuộc quá mức vào đèn điện nhân.

Situated on Vo Nguyen Giap Road at 699 sqm, it faces the sea directly while addressing future urban challenges.
Da Nang’s strategic coastline along Vo Nguyen Giap Road presents Chicland Hotel with an exceptional opportunity: a site positioned precisely 100 meters from My Khe Beach. This location, characterized by bright sunlight and cool marine breezes, demands architectural responses that harmonize with both the immediate environment and anticipated urban development. VTN Architects’ solution transcends conventional commercial hotel typology by proactively mitigating future constraints—specifically, the impending construction of a high-rise building to the north. By relocating all vertical technical components to this northern section, the design ensures unobstructed sea views for occupants across 21 stories and 153 rooms. This strategic spatial arrangement directly addresses the client’s business requirements while preserving the hotel’s visual connection to the ocean.
Vertical Greenery as Structural Solution
The project’s most distinctive intervention is its vertical greenery system, a carefully engineered facade covering concrete walls with tropical plants selected for their marine climate resilience and aesthetic impact. VTN Architects specified cymbidium hybrid, tournefortia argentea, ficus superba, bougainvillea, and pluchea indica—species proven to thrive in Da Nang’s humid conditions while providing dense, low-maintenance coverage. This system operates as both a functional and visual strategy: the alternating tree pots integrate seamlessly with balconies and sliding room sections, creating dynamic patterns that shift throughout the day without compromising structural integrity. Crucially, the greenery serves dual purposes beyond aesthetics—it actively regulates microclimates by reducing surface temperatures through evapotranspiration and enhancing thermal comfort within the building envelope. This bioclimatic approach directly responds to Da Nang’s coastal climate, where intense sunlight and high humidity challenge traditional hospitality spaces.
The system’s operational simplicity is equally significant for a project in this context. Unlike complex vertical gardens requiring specialized irrigation or constant maintenance, VTN Architects designed the structure to be easily managed by local staff using minimal water resources. This practicality ensures long-term viability without disrupting the hotel’s operations or increasing costs—essential considerations for a hospitality business operating in a region where seasonal weather fluctuations can impact both guest experience and infrastructure resilience. The greenery also functions as a natural barrier against wind, reducing noise pollution from coastal areas while maintaining visual continuity with the sea.
Local Material Integration and Circulation Strategy
Interior design at Chicland Hotel deliberately emphasizes local materials to reinforce its connection to Da Nang’s cultural landscape and environmental context. Furniture and finishes incorporate wood, stone, bamboo, and rattan—resources abundant in Vietnam that align with both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary sustainability goals. This material palette extends beyond aesthetics; it creates tactile experiences that resonate with guests’ sensory expectations of the region while minimizing transportation emissions associated with imported materials. The hotel’s guest rooms exemplify this philosophy through their open restroom configurations connected directly to bedrooms, eliminating transitional spaces that often compromise privacy or comfort in conventional layouts.
