TAPS CLUB

Tái định hình tính lưu động công nghiệp - Industrial Fluidity Reimagined

SICART AND SMITH ARCHITECTS

HCMC’s emerging middle class finds a new social hub where beer culture meets refined dining, housed within an adaptive industrial structure. SICART AND SMITH ARCHITECTS transformed a 900m² metallic framework into a dynamic space for social connection and curated experiences in Vietnam’s third district.

The TAPS CLUB project emerges from the strategic conversion of an existing large-scale metallic structure spanning 900m² within HCMC’s 3rd District (147 Truong Dinh). This deliberate reuse of industrial infrastructure directly addresses the city’s evolving social landscape, creating a venue that caters specifically to Vietnam’s burgeoning middle class.

Industrial Fluidity: Material Systems and Beer Distribution

SICART AND SMITH ARCHITECTS achieved remarkable spatial efficiency by leveraging the existing metallic framework as the primary structural backbone. This decision eliminated the need for extensive new construction, preserving the site’s industrial character while accommodating the project’s unique requirements. The resulting space features a dedicated cold room housing beer kegs behind the bar—a critical element enabling the distinctive draft beer distribution system. Four precisely engineered pipes extend from this cold room to strategically placed tables in the main area, allowing guests to pour their own fresh beer directly.

The material choices reflect both industrial aesthetics and practical functionality. Perforated rusted metal sheets form the VIP and bar walls, illuminated from behind with controlled lighting systems that enhance visual interest without overwhelming the space. These materials were selected specifically to maintain the industrial chic aesthetic while providing structural integrity for the high-traffic areas. The chairs incorporate thoughtful design elements such as rotational mechanisms to ensure guest comfort during extended social interactions—a detail critical for sustaining the club’s lively atmosphere throughout the evening.

Adaptive Atmospheres: Circulation, Lighting, and Franchise Strategy

The ceiling system constitutes one of the project’s most sophisticated spatial interventions, combining metal mesh “clouds” with suspended fabric “veils” illuminated by RGB lighting. This dual-layered approach creates dynamic atmospheric shifts throughout the night—transitioning from intimate social zones to vibrant party spaces as the event progresses.

Circulation patterns within TAPS CLUB are designed with HCMC’s tropical climate in mind. The layout facilitates natural ventilation through strategic openings while minimizing heat accumulation during peak hours. This adaptation addresses common challenges in Southeast Asian hospitality spaces where high humidity can impact guest comfort and operational efficiency.

The women’s toilet area demonstrates exceptional attention to detail for its specific user group. A dedicated makeup station and socialise sofa provide a comfortable space for guests to engage in casual conversation or capture photos—features that align with the club’s focus on fostering connections among diverse social groups.

The beer distribution system represents a technical innovation central to TAPS CLUB’s operational identity. By positioning the cold room behind the bar and routing four pipes directly to central tables, the design ensures fresh draft beer remains accessible without compromising the space’s visual flow or creating bottlenecks during peak service times.

The project’s franchise potential is embedded in its spatial and material choices from inception. The modular nature of the ceiling system allows for consistent lighting configurations across multiple locations, while the ceramic tile surfaces provide uniform maintenance requirements. These deliberate design decisions ensure that TAPS CLUB can expand efficiently without requiring significant reconfiguration at each new site—directly supporting SICART AND SMITH ARCHITECTS’ vision for a scalable hospitality model.

The integration of industrial materials with functional lighting systems creates a space where social dynamics naturally evolve throughout the night. As guests move from initial mingling to more structured group interactions, the architectural response ensures the environment remains responsive and engaging without disrupting the intended experience.
