Giải pháp nghỉ ngơi nông thôn thông qua tích hợp nông nghiệp - Rural Respite Through Agricultural Integration
H2

Rural Integration Strategy
The design deliberately positions the structure at the terminus of Phuoc Thuan commune’s village street, directly adjacent to fields historically cultivated by generations of locals. This strategic placement leverages the natural transition from dense rural activity to open agricultural terrain, creating a visual and sensory corridor that frames the resort without obstructing the landscape. By anchoring itself within this specific topographical context—where the land shifts from clustered homesteads toward expansive rice paddies—the architecture establishes an unbroken connection between human habitation and seasonal farming cycles. This spatial relationship ensures that the primary view remains uninterrupted by urban development, allowing residents to experience the rhythmic transformation of fields during flowering seasons without artificial barriers.
This integration strategy extends beyond visual composition into functional circulation patterns. The site’s layout avoids direct adjacency to high-density urban zones, instead utilizing the village street as a transitional space that gradually diminishes in activity intensity toward the fields. This deliberate separation minimizes exposure to city noise and pollution while maintaining accessibility through established rural pathways.
Material and Cultural Continuity
H2 employs a meticulous selection of locally sourced materials to achieve both cost efficiency and cultural resonance. The structure utilizes wood and iron truss systems in specific configurations that align with traditional Vietnamese construction techniques while accommodating modern structural demands. This approach allows the architects to maintain low investment costs without compromising durability, directly supporting local labor markets through specialized carpentry and metalwork practices. Notably, the project incorporates native vegetation such as areca palm trees, coconut palms, sweet potato vines, lotus plants, and spinach—species integral to the region’s agricultural heritage—as both structural elements and living components of the landscape.
The architectural vocabulary further draws from ancestral village practices, including traditional tile roofs and thatched roofing systems. By adapting these techniques—such as using locally harvested reeds for thatching instead of imported materials—the project preserves cultural identity without requiring extensive external resources. The wood purlins, crafted from sustainably managed local timber, are designed to withstand the region’s monsoon conditions while maintaining thermal insulation properties critical for climate resilience.
The project’s commitment to cultural continuity extends into its social function. By situating itself at the end of the village street—a space historically used for communal gatherings—the resort becomes an active participant in rural community rhythms rather than a detached luxury enclave. This design choice ensures that residents can access shared spaces without disrupting traditional agricultural activities, fostering interactions that reinforce intergenerational knowledge transfer and collective memory.
The resort’s spatial arrangement also addresses climatic challenges through passive design principles. By positioning structures along natural wind channels created by the fields, the architecture minimizes heat gain during Vietnam’s hot months while maximizing cross-ventilation in cooler seasons. This approach reduces reliance on mechanical cooling systems and aligns with the project’s goal of creating a restful environment free from urban pollution.
The use of local labor in construction represents another critical aspect of cultural continuity. By training villagers in traditional techniques such as thatching and timber framing, H2 ensures that the project becomes a catalyst for sustainable rural development rather than an external intervention. This approach not only preserves indigenous craftsmanship but also creates immediate employment opportunities within Phuoc Thuan commune itself, reinforcing the site’s role as both a restorative space and an economic asset for local communities.
