Tọa lạc tại thành phố Mỹ Tho, vùng đất ven sông hình thành từ thế kỷ XVII và mang đậm dấu ấn văn minh sông nước cùng ảnh hưởng kiến trúc Pháp, Thủy Viên Coffee Shop là một ví dụ tinh tế của kiến trúc lưu trú đương đại. Nằm trong một khu dân cư yên tĩnh gần trung tâm, công trình được bao quanh bởi vườn cây, kênh rạch uốn lượn và hệ sinh thái sông nước đặc trưng. Được thiết kế bởi G+ Architects, quán cà phê đồng thời là một không gian trưng bày đồ cổ, lấy cảm hứng từ thiên nhiên, cảnh quan và con người địa phương.

Ý tưởng kiến trúc dựa trên quan niệm rằng công trình cần tồn tại như một thực thể độc lập nhưng vẫn gắn kết chặt chẽ với bối cảnh xung quanh. Để hiện thực hóa điều này, nhóm thiết kế đã tái sử dụng vật liệu từ các ngôi nhà cũ bị tháo dỡ tại địa phương như gạch, ngói và cửa gỗ, qua đó lưu giữ tinh thần nguyên bản của vùng đất. Các hình khối cơ bản được phóng đại về tỷ lệ so với con người, giúp những vật liệu cũ trở nên nổi bật và giàu tính cảm nhận.

Tổng thể công trình gồm ba khối chính bố trí quanh một hồ nước trung tâm, kết nối bằng các lối đi: khu cà phê chính, một không gian đa chức năng và một khối phụ trợ. Công trình trung tâm gây ấn tượng với mái ngói dạng chóp cụt bất đối xứng, như đang lơ lửng trên mặt nước, bao quanh bởi hệ kính lớn mở rộng tầm nhìn ra cảnh quan.

Không gian nội thất được tổ chức thành các khu vực hình vuông, tròn và tam giác với cao độ thấp dần, đưa tầm mắt của khách gần sát mặt nước, tạo trải nghiệm gần gũi thiên nhiên. Một ô tròn trên mái cho phép ánh sáng xuyên xuống, kết hợp với lớp vải lấy cảm hứng từ nghệ thuật Mondrian, tạo nên hiệu ứng ánh sáng chuyển động trên sàn. Các dải cửa sổ ngang bao quanh ba mặt công trình giúp xóa nhòa ranh giới trong ngoài, đồng thời tận dụng luồng gió mát từ hồ để thông gió tự nhiên.

Việc giữ lại cây xanh và hệ kênh rạch hiện hữu giúp công trình hòa quyện với cảnh quan, duy trì không khí trong lành và cảm giác thư thái. Thủy Viên Coffee Shop cho thấy cách tái sử dụng vật liệu, tổ chức hình khối rõ ràng và sự nhạy cảm với bối cảnh có thể tạo nên một không gian ẩm thực giàu giá trị, cân bằng giữa di sản và thiên nhiên.

Located in Mỹ Tho, a historic riverside city shaped since the 17th century by rich river civilisation and French colonial architectural influences, Thuy Vien Coffee Shop stands as a refined example of contemporary hospitality architecture. Situated in a peaceful residential area near the city centre, the project is enveloped by lush orchards, winding canals and the distinctive aquatic ecosystem of the Mekong Delta. Designed by G+ Architects, the coffee shop also functions as a private antique gallery, drawing inspiration from local nature, landscape and the spirit of the people.

The architectural concept is grounded in the idea that a building should exist as an independent entity while remaining deeply connected to its surrounding context. To realise this vision, the design team reused materials salvaged from old local houses — including bricks, tiles and wooden doors — thereby preserving the authentic soul of the land. Basic geometric forms are deliberately scaled up in relation to the human body, giving the reclaimed materials a strong, tactile presence.

The main office block opens towards the pine forest, maximising natural light and the The overall complex consists of three main volumes arranged around a central lake and linked by pathways: the main coffee house, a multi-functional pavilion and an auxiliary structure. The central building is distinguished by its large, asymmetrical truncated-pyramid tile roof that appears to float above the water, surrounded by expansive glass walls that open up panoramic views to the surrounding scenery.

The interior is organised into square, circular and triangular zones with gradually lowered floor levels, bringing guests’ eye level close to the water surface for an intimate connection with nature. A circular oculus in the roof allows natural light to filter through, enhanced by delicate fabric inspired by Mondrian’s art, creating dynamic patterns of light and shadow across the floor. Horizontal window bands wrapping three façades dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors while facilitating natural ventilation with cool breezes from the lake.

By preserving existing trees and the original canal system, the architecture seamlessly integrates with the verdant landscape, maintaining fresh air and a profound sense of tranquillity. Thuy Vien Coffee Shop demonstrates how intelligent material reuse, clear geometric organisation and deep contextual sensitivity can create a meaningful dining space that harmoniously balances heritage and nature.
